MANCHESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ - Doris Vivian Edgar, 90, of Manchester Township, NJ passed away on January 17, 2020.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, partner, and friend Robert Nolan Edgar, and by her parents Joseph and Dorothy Giacomaro. She is survived by her three sons, Kevin (Blacksburg, VA), David (Newfane, VT) and Robert M. (Somerville, NJ), her brother Ronald (Friday Harbor, WA), and her six treasured grandchildren.

Doris grew up in Fair Lawn, NJ, where she met Robert at Fair Lawn High, when he returned from flying in the Army Air Force over occupied Europe. She married him and began life together with him, first working in a bank and then focusing on raising three children. She lost her husband to illness much too early, and despite her grief went back to work. She went back to school at night to learn accounting, then became a very proficient accountant, all to earn enough to support her children. When she had gotten them through college, she retired and moved to Kingsport, TN, then later to Manchester Township. Her determination and her love for her family were legendary. She was a tireless creator of arts and crafts, and a dedicated member of the Episcopal Church of the Atonement in Fair Lawn. There was no more loyal friend than Doris, and in later years she loved to travel with friends to distant parts of the world. She will be missed enormously by her family and friends.

A celebration of her life is being planned by her family in Manchester Township in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations in her honor to one of Doris’ favorite charities would be appropriate: St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, you can donate from their website at https://www.stjude.org.
